Iran, Iraq survey ways of increasing cultural exchanges

Tehran, June 9, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Ministry’s Spokesman and Head of Public Diplomacy Center Saeed Khatibzadeh in a meeting with the visiting Iraqi Culture Minister Hussain Nazim here on Wednesday agreed on need for increased cultural exchanges between the two countries.

They also exchanged viewpoints on boosting cultural exchanges, on ways of resuming pilgrimages to Iraq's holy shrines and other fields of bilateral cultural cooperation especially in artistic and civilization fields.

The Iranian official said that the potential for the two countries’ cultural relations is far beyond its current level, stressing the need for precise planning aimed at boosting cooperation, especially by focusing on the civilizational, cultural, and artistic fields, including the visual, dramatic, and fine arts, as well as poetry, music, and tourism.

The Iraqi culture minister, too, reviewing the numerous fields for cultural cooperation, announced Baghdad’s readiness for resuming pilgrimages while observing the entire health protocols agreed by both sides.

He further emphasized the need for broadening cooperation in cultural and artistic fields of mutual interest, and in the same framework his proposal for holding shared Iran-Iraq culture weeks was welcomed by Khatibzadeh.

After the meeting the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman had another meeting with the head of Iraq’s Information Dissemination Organization and exchanged viewpoints with him on media cooperation.
