Comdr: Regional maritime security center to be launched in Chabahar

Tehran, IRNA - Iranian Navy Commander Rear-Admiral Hossein Khanzadi said the international maritime security coordination center will be launched in the presence of 36 countries in Chabahar Port aiming to maintain maritime security in the region.

According to the decision made in the 7th edition of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) which was hosted by France, this center will be launched for the Indian Ocean rim countries enabling them to exchange information for establishing maritime security, Khanzadi said.

The center will be launched for the first time in the region and the regional states can dispatch their representatives to Chabahar Port in southeast of Iran, he said adding that participants will be connected online.

He described the Atlantic Ocean as the third biggest ocean in the world, regretting that unfortunately, a center of insecurity was formed in the Gulf of Aden which caused the countries of the region to be alert.

He hailed Iran's capacity in the producing of naval vessels, saying some of the Iranian vessels are now thousand kilometers away from Iran escorting Iranian tankers.

He also referred to production of advanced marine diesel engines in Iran under support of the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Khanzadi lauded security in Iranian waters, saying any movement is being monitored 24/7 and the Iranian navy drones will conduct their aerial reconnaissance operations.

He pointed to producing hovercraft by the Iranian Ministry of Defense.
