Official: Iran Self-Sufficient in Production of Anti-Coronavirus Equipment, Ready to Export

TEHRAN (FNA)- Head of Iran's Food and Drug Administration Mohammadreza Shanehsaz declared on Monday the country’s self-sufficiency in production of different anti-coronavirus equipment, and declared that Iran is ready to start export of these items.

“Today, we are self-sufficient in providing drugs, masks, diagnosis kits, disinfection materials and alcohol,” Shanehsaz said.

He added that given the mass-production of these products by the knowledge-based companies and pharmaceutical firms, the country is ready to export the anti-coronavirus equipment.

Shanehsaz stressed that the country’s pharmaceutical know-how has grown so considerably that any medicine developed in the world will be indigenized and mass-produced in Iran in less than two years.

“At present, 97% of the country’s needs to medicine in all fields are produced by Iranian specialists,” he said.

In relevant remarks on Sunday, President Hassan Rouhani expressed Iran’s preparedness to export hygiene items to other countries to assist them in coronavirus campaign.

Rouhani informed of his foreign counterparts’ astonishment upon knowing that Iran is capable enough to export extra disinfectants to countries in need.

“We may even be able in the future to export some other hygiene items and test kits,” the president added.

“The enemies thought their two years of tough sanctions could destroy Iran, but now they are frustrated and infuriated when they see the Iranian people are responding to the disease much better than they do themselves,” Rouhani noted.
